Commissioning Practices
A quick and easy reference on FAM's standard commissioning practices!
1) Orchestral and recital engagements: 20%
2) Operatic (other than recital), radio, television, dramatic and other engagements or endeavors (e.g., commercials, publications, appearances) as well as audio recordings: 10%
3) Territorial representative assists in securing a contract: 2.5%
Provisions and exceptions:
a. In the event that an operatic engagement provides none of the following: accommodations at no cost to the Artist, a rehearsal fee or an accommodations stipend, the lesser of a) the actual housing costs for the engagement or b) the portion of the contracted fee stipulated as per diem by either the presenter or the American Guild of Musical Artists (as appropriate) will be deducted from the gross fee, and the 10% commission will be applied to the resulting net fee.
b. Any concert engagement with a total gross fee of $6,000 or less will be commissioned at 10%.
c. Any semi-staged concert engagement with a total gross fee over $6,000 will be commissioned at 15%.
d. Any concert engagement with a total gross fee greater than $6,000 will be commissioned at 20%.
e. Any media rights buyout or royalty payment greater than $2,000 will be commissioned at 5%.
f. FAM does not commission any total fee lower than $2,000.
g. These commissions may be adjusted or waved on a case-by-case basis by mutual agreement.
